October, Pop Up Shop Assignment and Typesetting
As a class,
we had an informal chat on what ideas we had developed for our assignment. I
went over the fact that I had chosen the brand ‘New Balance’ and that I wanted
to create a T-shirt, Stencil and 3D Object. Below I have shown the current
progress I have made on each and how I want to develop the idea.
T-Shirt
This
will be a Staff T-shirt for New Balance employees working on the Pop-Up Shop.
This piece of branding is vital as in some cases it will be the first contact
for customers. There will be staff positioned around the shop to entice
customers and therefore the branding will help display and introduce the New
Balance brand to the customers.
The
design of the T-Shirt will need to be unique in order to stand out and grab the
attention of the audience. I will be creating the T-shirt through the process
of screen printing as this will be an effective way to print designs onto the
material.
Stencil
The
Stencil I will be producing will be used to create unique signs and directions
on city streets. By placing this stencil on a dirty city floor or tiling and
then washing over the stencil this will create a sign without using any paints
or materials. This will create a unique look without having to apply any paints
that could damage a surface or be seen as a form of graffiti.
The
stencil will have to be made of a durable material that can be used a number of
times. It has to be both easy to transport and easy to place in position. I
will begin by researching materials and producing a stencil design.
3D
Object
The 3D
Object will be created using the 3D printer in house at UCF. Producing the
design will be done using the Cinema 4D programme we are being taught to use currently
in lesson time.
I want
the object to represent something that will be used within the store. It can be
something that customers can interact with or an object that is part of the
payment procedure.
Typesetting
Art
worker – someone who produces the work, usually freelance, requires specific
skillset
Typesetting
is a way in which artists convey design ideas and layouts in writing. This will
include Typeface, point size, CMYK and RGB. This allows other designers to
understand an idea or even produce a product at a later time. Within InDesign
these designs can be input easily using Character Styles. Character Styles can
be easily uploaded on InDesign speeding up a number of processes for the
designer.
Below I have shown
some of my designs using similar images and layouts to create a themed book of
Fables. In this design process we used Character Styles to simplify the
processes.
