October, Written Assignment Details and Design Process
In the morning
lesson with Caz we were looking over the grade descriptors of the University of
Surrey. We then related this to our Graphic Design course and the assignments
that will follow. This gave us a strong understanding of what we need to
include in our work in order to achieve the highest grade we can.
Below I
have listed the points I need to consider when I am writing and producing my
assignment
- Use
evidence to support your opinions and arguments
- Compare
different evidence and conclude on this
- Markers
are looking for originality within thoughts
- Make
new unique conclusions
Harvard
Referencing
When
listing the source make sure to mention
- The
Author
- When
it was said
- What
it was in
- Who
published it
- Which
edition if there are multiple
Internet
Source
- URL
of page and date it was accessed
E-Books
- Set-up
like a book but also reference what URL its also from
YouTube

Images
need to be referenced
- Artist/Originator

- URL
Reference
Referencing
in Text
- Use
name of author and year
- If
it is a direct quotation put it in brackets
- Paraphrasing
is better than direct quotations
- Good
for breaking down a quote to a more simplistic level
Reference
layout
- Alphabetical
order
- If
there is a picture reference list lay that out separately
The
assignment will need to have double spacing and a reasonable point size in
order to help with the marking process
Afternoon
Lesson
Design
Process
Visualising
Ideas
- How
sketching down images can help develop an idea
Not
sketching could result in;
- Bypassing
important development stages
- Ideas
may not reach full potential
- You
may worry about design choices rather than the concept, this would be
problematic in future creative design roles
Don’t
limit yourself in design aspects
The
Design Process that I am incorporating is:
Thumbnails
– Roughs – Digital Roughs
This will
help me effectively develop my ideas giving me the opportunity to really
develop an idea by adding and taking away components throughout the process.
